EDUARDO FREITAS

Eduardo Freitas (1990, Ponta Grossa - PR, Brazil) is an artist and researcher. In 2017, he decided to move country in the hope of finding new stimuli for his creative process. He has lived in Portugal since then. The artist, who in his childhood and youth lived and worked in the restaurant business, brings to his artistic work the imagery of food, the commensal rituals, the sharing of meals, and the act of eating and cooking as artistic actions. In this approach, he reflects his personal experience in dialogue with the memories, stories and places of the "other". He is a PhD candidate on the Contemporary Art course at the University of Coimbra (FCT Scholarship), and master in Artistic Practices in Visual Arts (2019), from Évora University. In Brazil, he studied Sculpture at the School of Music and Fine Arts Artes do Paraná (2012), and specialized in Visual Poetics (2014), in the same institution.

“Eduardo Freitas is inspired by anatomy, gastronomy and the world of restaurant work to to carry out his creative proposals that cross different forms of expression, simultaneously gathering the visual, multimedia and performance arts. The artist, who in his childhood and youth, concurrently with his artistic studies, lived and worked in the restaurant business, brings to his creative work those experiences and memories. Many times, the elements pf gastronomy are anthropomorphized, or human organs are turned into into food, highlighting, in a metaphorical and ironic way, the fragility, inconstancy and finiteness of human life. His reasearch work and artistic practice can be understood as an attempt to understand, translate and explain the increasingly globalized social world in which we live, analyzing, reviewing and recreating concepts and practices of the restaurant universe and of the art with which people are familar with and don't question.”
